Belarus’ FM to visit Russia soon

MOSCOW, 5 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei has told reporters that he will go on a working visit to Russia soon. Vladimir Makei met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the CIS Ministerial Council meeting on 5 April, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei noted that he always meets with his Russian counterpart during international events. “Just as usual, we have discussed our bilateral agenda today, as well as our interaction within the framework of various international organizations. We also shared our views on regional developments and covered the entire spectrum of bilateral relations. We also touched upon our forthcoming contacts. The minister of foreign affairs of Belarus is set to go on a working visit to Russia in the near future,” he said.

Vladimir Makei also informed that a joint board meeting of the foreign ministries of the two countries is to be held at the end of 2019. Members of the board are expected to adopt a new program of joint action in foreign policy and another plan of ministerial consultations.

“We have also discussed the matters that concern our citizens the most, unresolved issues, integration matters. All in all, the conversation was absolutely sincere, open, and, most importantly, constructive and positive, as it has always been. Both parties are interested in promoting close cooperation in the bilateral format and on the international agenda,” Vladimir Makei said.

Speaking about the action plan to step up cooperation between the foreign ministries of the CIS member states, Vladimir Makei called this plan positive. This action plan was under discussion at the CIS Ministerial Council meeting in Moscow on 5 April. “We are ready to discuss all the issues with our counterparts, from trade and economic contacts to humanitarian cooperation. I believe that it will also contribute to strengthening the CIS,” he emphasized.
