Belarus FM: Lukashenko hopes for successful peace talks between Russia, Ukraine

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko hopes that Russia and Ukraine will be able to find solutions to the crisis issues during the talks at the Pripyat, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said before the start of the Russia-Ukraine peace talks on 28 February, BelTA has learned.

“President Aleksandr Lukashenko sincerely hopes that today’s talks will bring solutions to all crisis issues. All the Belarusians are praying for that. Any of your requests and suggestions regarding the organization of today's meeting will be accepted and implemented. We are waiting for the result,” the minister said.

The delegations of Russia and Ukraine are holding their first talks on 28 February. The parties are holding talks in the area of the Pripyat River near Belarus’ border with Ukraine. The exact location of the talks is not specified for security reasons.

At the talks the Russian delegation is headed by Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky. It also includes Deputy Defense Minister, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky and Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov. The Ukrainian delegation includes Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Tochytskyi, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, Adviser to the Head of the President's Office Mykhailo Podolyak, Head of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia, MP Rustem Umerov and First Deputy Head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group Andriy Kostin.
