MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) - Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov assessed the possibility of escalation on the Belarusian border in an interview with Izvestia, BelTA has learned.

"The more armed people there are on the other side of the border, the higher possibility of escalation is. Who knows what could come into a soldier's head? We have already seen incidents like this: shooting incidents on the border with our country and on the Ukrainian side. People are stressed and depressed. The possibility of both intentional and accidental provocation is very high in such conditions," Maksim Ryzhenkov said.

The minister stated that the situation on the border with Ukraine is quite tense. According to him, provocations from the Ukrainian side against the Belarusian border continue. Belarus also registers a lot of militarized actions on the part of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.
