Belarus, EU to discuss easing visa requirements in Bratislava 23 June

MINSK, 16 June (BelTA) – Easing of visa restrictions between Belarus and the European Union will be discussed in Bratislava on 23 June as part of the Belarusian-Slovak ministerial consultations, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told media on 16 June, BelTA has learned.

“On 21 June Prague will host the Belarusian-Czech consultations. On 23 June Bratislava will play host to the Belarusian-Slovak consultations. Belarus and Slovakia are expected to discuss the regulation of the legal status of the citizens of Belarus and Slovakia, response to present-day migration challenges. As Slovakia takes over the presidency in the European Union on 1 July, the parties will exchange information on the talks with the EU regarding the facilitation of visa procedures,” noted Dmitry Mironchik.

In his words, the consultations with the Czech Republic will highlight a number of issues related to visa application, amendments to the consular laws. The Belarusian delegation will be led by Head of the Consular Department at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Igor Fisenko, the Czech delegation by Director of the Department of Consular Conceptions and Methodology of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs David Novy. The Slovak delegation will be led by Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Igor Pokojny.

According to Dmitry Mironchik, on 21-22 June Minsk will play host to the consultations between the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on international and legal matters. The Belarusian delegation will be led by Head of the Main Treaty and Law Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrei Popkov, the Turkmen part by Head of the Main Treaty and Law Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eziz Nazarov.

The parties will discuss the international and legal cooperation between the two countries, including legal aspects of collaboration within international universal and regional organizations, and also will assess the bilateral legal framework between Belarus and Turkmenistan.
