Belarus, EU hold fifth round of consultations on modernization issues

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Foreign Minister Yelena Kupchina took part in the fifth round of consultations on modernization issues between Belarus and the European Union on 9 March, BelTA learned from in the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

The EU delegation was headed by Gunnar Wiegand, Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE of the European External Action Service.

The main goal of the consultations is to determine the best future forms of cooperation between the Belarusian government and the European Union. The participants discussed, among other things, human rights issues.

During the visit to Brussels, Yelena Kupchina held a series of meetings with senior officials of the European Commission and the European External Action Service. Further development of relations between Belarus and the EU was discussed during meetings with Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, and Helga Maria Schmid, Deputy Secretary General for the External Action Service.
