Belarus-EU environmental consultations underway in Minsk

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – Experts from Belarus and the EU are taking part in the 10th round of ministerial consultations in environmental protection in Minsk on 19 November, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

“This is an efficient platform for expanding cooperation with the EU across the priority avenues of the environmental agenda, like biodiversity conservation, waste management, air quality control, adaptation to the climate change,” the ministry noted.

Taking part in the expert consultations are members of the Directorate-General for Climate Action and the Directorate-General for Environment of the European Commission, as well as specialists of structural subdivisions of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus. Top on the agenda of the event is preparation for the 24th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The European Union is one of Belarus’ key partners in environmental protection. The program of international technical assistance to support the development of green economy has been implemented in Belarus. This program helped materialize seven pilot projects and 16 initiatives. Good results were achieved in waste management, biodiversity conservation, ecolabeling, establishment of a network of green schools and promotion of ecotourism.
