Belarus, EU discuss development of relations after changes in EU Commission

LONDON, 22 November (BelTA) – Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas and Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn discussed further development of the Belarusian-European relations after changes in the EU Commission on 22 November, BelTA has learned.

“Our meeting is taking place as the European Commission is gearing up for the changing of the guard. I know that you will be in charge of the EC Commission for Budget and Administration. This is a very important job. Budget issues are one of the most responsible missions,”Sergei Rumas said.

Speaking about today’s EBRD Eastern Partnership Investment Summit, he stressed that this is a very important event for Belarus. The idea of such an investment summit was initiated by Belarus. “It is very good that the summit is held under the auspices of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This allows attracting really important investors who are interested in working with the countries of the Eastern Partnership,”the prime minister said.

Johannes Hahn, for his part, offered to discuss the key areas of cooperation and the issues where the parties would like to make progress.

He stressed that the Belarusian president recently made a very successful visit to Austria. “As an Austrian, I submitted a request to my president to invite yours and I am happy that everything worked out,”he said.
