Belarus, EU discuss cooperation in human rights

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) - The European Union and the Republic of Belarus held the fifth round of the bilateral Human Rights Dialogue in Minsk on 17 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects for further cooperation between Belarus and the EU in human rights, including in the context of the implementation of the National Human Rights Action Plan and the recommendations as part of the Universal Periodic Review of the UN Human Rights Council. Consideration was also given to the observance of human rights in Belarus and in a number of the EU member states.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Oleg Kravchenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus. The EU delegation was led by Dirk Schuebel, Head of Division for Bilateral Relations with the Eastern Partnership Countries of the European External Action Service.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, the ministries of foreign affairs, justice, interior, education, labor and social security, and the Central Election Commission.

The EU delegation included officials of the relevant units of the European External Action Service, the European Commission, and representatives of the EU member countries (as observers).

Representatives of the Belarusian non-governmental attended the meeting too.
