Belarus enhances military capabilities with modern weapon systems

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – Belarus has increased the share of modern weapons in its army, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss state armament programs and the state defense procurement program on 11 May, BelTA has learned.

The head of state emphasized the importance of modernizing the army’s equipment after completing the state armament program for 2021-2025, while outlining goals in this area for the next five-year period. “It is important that the implementation of the program has allowed us to increase the share of modern weaponry in the Armed Forces to almost half – 45% over five years. Meanwhile, the proportion of annually renewed equipment increased to 2%. We can state that the measures we are taking ensure our weapons and military equipment remain combat-ready,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president pointed out that the previous program focused primarily on strengthening the combat capabilities of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces. “New aircraft, helicopters, and air defense systems have been delivered to military units and are now in service,” the president emphasized.

The head of state also noted that to enhance mobility, mechanized units have received modern armored vehicles, including those manufactured in Belarus. The equipment of military personnel has been improved, including through the use of modern individual body armor and optics.

Significant attention has been paid to the supply of new communication systems. “As experience shows, this is a vital component that defines a great deal, and sometimes everything, in modern combat. In the near future, we will examine the standards of our communication equipment,” the head of state added.

“By the way, everything I am talking about is produced in Belarus,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
