Belarus, Egypt to set up commission on bilateral cooperation, political dialogue

CAIRO, 19 February (BelTA) – Following the talks between Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Egypt President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo the two countries signed a set of documents, BelTA has learned.

The documents include the intergovernmental executive program of cooperation in higher education and the agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters.

The Foreign Ministries signed a memorandum of cooperation. It involves setting up a joint high-level commission on bilateral cooperation and political dialogue between Belarus and Egypt at the level of foreign ministers.

A memorandum of cooperation was also signed by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the Central Bank of Egypt.

The joint commission on bilateral cooperation and political dialogue has been set up to deepen comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media. “This does not mean that the commission will replace the institutions that have already been established: working groups and the commission on trade and economic cooperation. It will analyze the situation in the comprehensive way and do everything to ensure that the agreements are implemented,” the minister stressed.

According to him, the high-level joint commission will have to work closely with all ministries and departments of both countries so that there are no bureaucratic obstacles and difficulties.
