Belarus’ efforts to mitigate consequences of Chernobyl disaster praised

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) - Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated workers and veterans of the Department for the Mitigation of the Consequences of the Chernobyl Disaster on the 30th anniversary of the organization, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The head of state remarked that Belarus was affected the most from the biggest manmade disaster in the history of the mankind. A lot has been done over the years: territories were decontaminated, people were relocated from the hazardous zone, housing, jobs and medical aid were provided. “For these purposes the legal framework was developed, research and healthcare institutions were opened, international cooperation was established. Dozens of thousands of children got access to qualified healthcare services in rehabilitation and recuperation centers,” the message of greetings reads.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, efficient state programs for the mitigation of the consequences helped restore the economy of the affected regions.

“Such results are an indisputable achievement of your dedicated team. It is still necessary to do a lot to fully restore those territories. I am convinced that you will cope with this task,” the president stressed.
