Belarus eager to work hard in OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to tackle transnational challenges

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarus is intent on doing serious joint work in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in the area of fighting transnational challenges. The relevant statement was made by Andrei Rybak, a member of the Belarusian delegation, Chairman of the Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport, and Communications Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, at a meeting of the OSCE PA General Committee on Political Affairs and Security in Vienna on 22 February, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian parliament delegation took part in events of the final day of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly winter session. In his speech during the meeting of the OSCE PA General Committee on Political Affairs and Security Andrei Rybak confirmed Belarus’ readiness to get involved as much as possible in matters concerning the fight against complex transnational challenges and threats.

The MP mentioned Belarus’ intention to do serious joint work, in particular, in fighting terrorism, illegal drugs trade, fulfilling the UN Security Council Resolution 1540, and deactivating light arms and small arms.

Representatives of Belarus also took part in a joint session of the three general committees where reports by chairpersons of special committees and OSCE PA special representatives were presented and discussed.

During the winter session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Vienna on 20-22 February the Belarusian delegation was led by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk.

The Belarusian MPs took part in a meeting of the OSCE PA Silk Road Support Group and informed those present about the format and the program of the international conference, which is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 29-30 April. The forum will be dedicated to enhancing the investment appeal of the Belt and Road initiative participating countries. Apart from that, at the meeting of the OSCE PA General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment Boleslav Pirshtuk told those present about Belarus’ initiative to prepare a resolution on strategic forecasting and submit it for consideration of the upcoming summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The document is supposed to draw attention to the role of science, technologies, and innovations in dealing with global and regional problems.
