Belarus’ determination to become WTO member reaffirmed

MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with Kemal Madenoglu, chairman of the working party on Belarus’ accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Maika Oshikawa, Officer-in-Charge of the WTO Accessions Division, in Minsk on 1 November, BelTA has learned.

During the meeting Vladimir Makei informed WTO representatives about Belarus’ determination to become a full-value member of the World Trade Organization. Members of the WTO delegation were also informed about the work that had been done to that effect. Vladimir Makei put forward a number of proposals concerning further steps with regard to Belarus’ interaction with the WTO Secretariat and member states.

Vladimir Makei also shared his vision of the role and capabilities of Belarus as part of the multilateral trade system. Opinions were exchanged about ways to better promote Belarus’ national interests taking into account the country’s participation in integration associations in the course of accession to the WTO and initiatives of the foreign partners, which take part in the negotiations.

Preparations for arranging the visit of the Belarusian delegation to Buenos Aires, Argentina for the sake of participation in the 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization were discussed as well.
