MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) – The inauguration of Georgia's first female president Salome Zurabishvili took place in Telavi on 16 December. The Belarusian delegation at the ceremony was led by Deputy Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Marianna Shchetkina, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament.
While in Georgia, Marianna Shchetkina held working meetings with the prime minister, the speaker of the parliament and the minister of foreign affairs of the country. The head of the Belarusian delegation also held talks with representatives of the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Poland and other countries. “The parties discussed trade, economic, investment and humanitarian cooperation,” the press service said.
Attending the inauguration of the Georgian president were more than 50 foreign representatives.
In 2018, the president of Georgia was elected via general voting for the last time. Provisions that transform the country into a parliamentary system took effect on 16 December 2018.
