Belarus, Czechia to sign agreement on sci-tech cooperation

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Czechia are set to sign an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in science and technology, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov said as he took part in a session of the Belarusian-Czech commission on economic, industrial, scientific, and technical cooperation on 22 May, BelTA has learnt.

“I am glad that we keep expanding the legal framework of our cooperation. In March this year we signed an intergovernmental agreement on retirement benefits. I hope that we will be able to sign the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in science and technology soon,” Evgeny Shestakov said.

In 2017 Belarus-Czechia trade increased after three years of a setback. The trend grew stronger in the first quarter of this year.

In January-March 2018 Belarus’ export to Czechia exceeded $28 million, 48.4% up. The import stood at $52.1 million, 27.3% up.

Evgeny Shestakov emphasized that the positive trend has nothing to do with rising prices for oil and oil products, potassium and nitrogen fertilizers. It is rather due to the economic recovery in Belarus.
