MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Belarus Milan Ekert signed an agreement on pension coverage between the two countries on 14 March, BelTA learned from the ministry.

“The signing of the document is another important step in developing international cooperation in pension coverage. The agreement extends to citizens living and working or who have worked in the territory of Belarus and the Czech Republic and is aimed at securing and implementing pension rights for the period of this activity,” the ministry said.

Under the document, the countries agree on the legal regulation on the payment of contributions for compulsory state social insurance (pensions, temporary disablement allowance, pregnancy and childbirth benefits, etc.); on the appointment and payment of pensions (by age, length of service, disability, loss of breadwinner).

Payers of insurance contributions must comply with the general rules in force in the state where they work. Pensions will be appointed by each state in accordance with its legislation for length of service on its territory and paid out to the state of residence of the citizen.

The contract will come into force after the parties complete the necessary internal procedures.

Belarus is a party to the multilateral agreement on pension provision within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Belarus has also concluded bilateral agreements on pension coverage with Ukraine, Moldova, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia and Azerbaijan. Work is underway to draft similar agreements with Poland and Estonia.
