Belarus’ Customs working on nine international technical aid projects

MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – The State Customs Committee of Belarus is working on nine international technical aid projects, representatives of the Belarusian customs service told BelTA.

According to the source, in 2017 Belarus’ Customs continued working to attract international technical aid resources for the sake of modernizing the customs service. One project has been completed. Another two are being implemented. Another nine have been preapproved.

Thanks to cooperation with the Chinese government an inspection complex for scanning trains was commissioned at the Brest-Severny train station. The second phase of the project to fit the border checkpoints Veselovka, Novaya Guta, Komarin, Nevel, and Mokrany with radiation detection equipment is being implemented in line with the Second Line of Defense program of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Apart from international technical aid projects Belarus’ Customs works together with the Transport and Communications Ministry to reconstruct the Kamenny Log automobile border checkpoint with assistance of the European Investment Bank.

Work is in progress to sign international agreements with 32 countries. In particular, agreements have been signed with Georgia and Iran. International documents on cooperation in personnel training have been signed with the customs services of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Cooperation with China to implement the Belt and Road initiative is an important avenue of cooperation.

The constantly expanding international cooperation of the Belarusian customs service with the customs services of other countries contributes to stronger economic security of Belarus, to the enabling of free movement of goods and vehicles across the customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union, to the unification of customs legislation and to the inflow of foreign investments.
