Belarus-Cuba parliamentary contacts advancing

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Mitskevich met with a delegation of the special development zone Mariel led by the zone’s Director General, member of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba Ana Teresa Igarsa Martinez on 21 February, BelTA has learned.

Valery Mitskevich said: “I’ve been to Cuba on an official visit. We met with the leadership of the parliament, the government, including the special development zone Mariel. Today the zone’s head came to us. We have very good political contacts. Parliamentary contacts are advancing. But certainly economy underpins everything. And we should build up economic ties, mutual merchandise shipments, and increase production. Today we are going to talk about that.”

In his words, there are plenty of growth points. “We will hold negotiations on organizing joint manufacturing both in the special economic zone Mariel and in Belarus, in particular, in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone,” the deputy head of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament said.

BelTA reported earlier that Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Mitskevich participated in the 36th General Assembly of the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) in Panama on 11-12 February. The head of the delegation delivered a report on contacts with the Latin American Parliament on the first day of the assembly. The report met close attention and a broad response from Latin American parliamentarians.

Valery Mitskevich added: “After the speech many approached me and thanked me for expressing Belarus’ stance on many topics, including peace and peace promotion on the part of parliaments and parliamentarians from all over the world. And we certainly talked about our own role. Virtually all Latin America countries are interested in economic contacts with the Republic of Belarus, in particular, the Mercosur Parliament is interested in cooperation with the National Assembly of Belarus.”
