MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Belarus wants its resolution in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to be upheld by MPs from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said at the session of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Bishkek, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

The participants of the session discussed, among other things, interaction between parliamentary delegations representing the CSTO and OSCE PA member states. “Speaking about the preparations for the OSCE PA summer session, Vladimir Andreichenko spoke about another draft resolution of Belarus “Strategic forecasting in science, technology and innovation for sustainable development”. At present, the document is gathering signatures to be included as an additional point in the agenda of the session that will be held in Luxemburg in July. The speaker expressed hope for close cooperation of MPs from the CSTO member states in adopting the resolution,” the press service noted.

Vladimir Andreichenko recalled that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted a number of important resolutions initiated by Belarus and upheld by the CSTO member states. These resolutions dealt with cooperation in mitigating the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster, fight against trafficking in human beings and illegal drug trade, promotion of green and digital economy with a view to stimulating economic growth in the OSCE region.

Apart from that, Vladimir Andreichenko informed the participants of the session about the outcomes of the International Conference of the OSCE PA Silk Road Support Group “Belt and Road: strengthening cooperation for sustainable development and prosperity" that took place in Minsk in late April.

Taking part in the meeting were delegations from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, as well as observer states (Afghanistan and Serbia). The participants of the session discussed priorities of Kyrgyzstan presidency in the CSTO in 2019, took stock of the efforts of the CSTO Standing Council to improve the organization’s institutional foundations, discussed the work of the CSTO PA international observers at the presidential election in Kazakhstan and refined the CSTO PA’s action plan for 2019.
