Belarus, China ready to team up for environmental action

Belarus, China ready to team up for environmental action

MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Belarus and China are ready to join efforts to promote environmental conservation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry.

Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Andrei Khudyk met with  Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong at the ministry.

The parties discussed cooperation in the field of environmental conservation as one of growth points of bilateral cooperation. Andrei Khudyk said that Belarus seeks to raise green investment, introduce environmental innovations, expand consulting services on resource efficiency of manufacturing, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“Our short-term and mid-term objectives are quite ambitious. We strive to achieve climate neutrality, build adaptive capacity to climate change, prevent land degradation, introduce water-saving technologies, restore damaged ecosystems, and promote eco-tourism,” the minister said.

The “greening” of manufacturing is a new trend in Belarus. It seeks to lessen the impact of the manufacturing industry on the environment, recycle and reuse more materials, promote environmental certification, as well as to increase production and consumption of environmentally friendly (recyclable) products.

The parties noted that they share the determination to promote a green economy and are ready to become partners in the field of environmental conservation.

They also discussed joint efforts to combat climate change. The minister suggested joining forces to implement the Paris Agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
