Belarus, China discuss preparations for Belt and Road forum

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas is in China on a visit on 18-19 March, BelTA has learned.

On 18 March the diplomat met with Deputy Secretary General of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Hu Xiaoli. The sides discussed preparations for the Belarusian head of state’s participation in the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Details of the forthcoming visit of the Chinese parliament’s delegation to Minsk in early April were discussed as well.

Andrei Dapkiunas and Hu Xiaoli exchanged opinions about invigoration of interparliamentary cooperation with a view to tackling practical tasks set by the two heads of state. Andrei Dapkiunas congratulated Hu Xiaoli on the successful completion of a regular session of the National People's Congress, which is one of the most important political events in China in 2019.

Andrei Dapkiunas met with Deputy Head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Qian Hongshan. The Belarusian diplomat spoke highly of achievements of the Communist Party of China in implementing openness reforms, fighting corruption, and eradicating poverty. An agreement was reached on assistance with regular contacts, including between the Belarus President Administration and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for the sake of effective implementation of all agreements and mutually profitable projects.

Andrei Dapkiunas said Belarus hopes that a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China would take part in the Belt and Road forum, which is scheduled to take place in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone in July 2019.
