MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Belarus’ First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov has met with Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency under the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Luo Zhaohui during the first day of his working trip to China, BelTA learned from the press service of the government.

Nikolai Snopkov’s visit is meant to facilitate the implementation of the agreements between the leaders of Belarus and China that were reached during the state visit of the Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to China and the agreements reached during the negotiations with the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.

According to the first deputy prime minister, the countries have been promoting their partnership for decades and are now truly “iron” brothers. Nikolai Snopkov drew attention to the strategic nature of the projects in the field of development and cooperation. Belarus always responds instantly to any initiatives of China. Belarus was one of the first countries to support and join China’s Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the Global Development Initiative. The chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency doubled down on that saying that the Belarus-China relations have gone far beyond the bilateral framework and that their cooperation is of global importance.

The list of joint projects funded by the Chinese government through gratuitous aid is huge. Belarus has already implemented 15 important social projects totaling about 1.6 billion Chinese yuan. The current portfolio includes projects that are important for the people of Belarus, such as the construction of two world-class sports facilities - a stadium and a swimming pool. About a dozen new strategic projects are underway, including infrastructure development projects in the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone and the supply of technological equipment worth a total of over 900 million Chinese yuan.

The parties agreed to accelerate the implementation of the most important projects, to finance and complete the construction of the sports facilities by September 2024, to consistently develop social, housing and industrial infrastructure of the Great Stone park, to approve a number of projects by the end of the year, to ensure the delivery of the necessary equipment in order to implement the agreements reached by the two leaders and to flesh out the new status of relations - all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership in a new era.
