Belarus’ central bank instructed to set up economic research group

Belarus’ central bank instructed to set up economic research group

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) - A group will be set up in the National Bank to analyze the economic situation, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he received a report from Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin in Minsk on 23 September, BelTA has learned.

“I want you to know (so there are no misunderstandings or jealousy) that I asked the former prime minister (no such thing as a true 'former') who is a young, educated, and experienced man [Roman Golovchenko who currently heads the central bank] to form a group within the National Bank. There are such people in the National Bank: smart, competent, and knowledgeable in economics. They should assist the government together with the State Control Committee. Because it's not entirely the function of the State Control Committee. You know what their job is. I want them to inform me and analyze the economic situation. After all, everything is visible through the money flow. You are an economist, you understand,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

"Therefore, no hard feelings. I asked Golovchenko to set up a group for me within the National Bank. You are its head and are obligated to objectively analyze and report to me. Because my impression is one thing. But theirs (of the specialists') is another. Of course, this will not be closed information. The prime minister should see it and will see it,” the Belarusian leader added.
