Belarus calls for national efforts to combat demand for ‘human commodity’

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) - Belarus calls for the countries to combat the demand for ‘human commodity’ at the national level, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko said at the 2017 OSCE Mediterranean Conference in Palermo, Italy, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The head of the Belarusian delegation spoke in the capacity of rapporteur during the thematic session on the increased risks for smuggling and trafficking in human beings arising from large movements of refugees and migrants. He laid out Belarus' efforts to combat trafficking in human beings in international cooperation and stressed the need for measures to combat the relevant demand, including at the national level.

Oleg Kravchenko met with Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Director of the UN Office in Vienna Yury Fedotov, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Italy Vincenzo Amendola, Deputy Minister of Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria Michael Linhart, and a number of other representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs of the OSCE member states to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation and interaction in the OSCE.
