Belarus calls for expanding traditional partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals

MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov called for expanding the traditional partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals as he attended the UN Economic and Social Council’s (ECOSOC) 2017 Partnership Forum, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Belarusian diplomat emphasized the important role of partnerships in addressing different issues, including in the implementation of the new development agenda. Valentin Rybakov stressed the need for expanding the traditional circle of stakeholders (states, international organizations, civil society) by engaging the private sector, mass media, academia, religious and youth organizations,” the press service said.

Valentin Rybakov shared Belarus’ experience in establishing global partnerships to combat trafficking in human beings, to protect traditional family values, and to support middle-income countries in the United Nations. He pointed out that by supporting small partnerships focused on different issues it is possible to successfully address challenges at the global level.

Every year at the ECOSOC Partnership Forum brings together influential leaders from government, civil society, the private and non-profit sectors to discuss the most pressing issues of today. The 2017 forum considered ways to promote partnerships for addressing global challenges in the context of the effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
