MOSCOW, 17 May (BelTA) - In the current world situation we need a comprehensive dialogue of the key players of the world on global security in the spirit of San Francisco, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik told the media after the talks between the foreign ministers of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

According to the minister, since gaining independence Belarus has stayed committed to a peace-loving foreign policy and has always advocated a safer world for all. That is why the country has been actively promoting the initiative to organize a broad dialogue on security issues, reduce tensions in the military-political sector and prevent interstate contradictions over the past years.

“We regret that we were not listened to back then. Today the situation is such that Helsinki 2 is no longer enough. We need a broader, more comprehensive, inclusive dialogue of all key players of the world on global security issues. The dialogue in the spirit of San Francisco [the San Francisco Conference in 1945, which resulted in the elaboration and negotiation of the UN Charter]. Today we must talk about security for all, which would take into account the interests and give guarantees to all countries of the world without exception, including Russia and Belarus,” Sergei Aleinik said.

In his words, peace initiatives have recently emerged in different parts of the world. For example, China, countries of Latin America and Africa have voiced their proposals. “It shows that the majority of the international community is aimed to form a new security system, which would take into account the interests of all countries without exception and would guarantee that security for everyone,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.
