MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Azerbaijan discussed the development of trade and economic relations during a meeting of the Belarus-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk on 2 June, BelTA has learned.
Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Natalya Petkevich expressed sincere gratitude to representatives of both the Belarusian and Azerbaijani sides for the immense work they are doing in their respective fields to expand trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. “We need to align so closely, collaborate so intensively, and boost our partnership across various areas that it becomes genuinely mutually beneficial, delivering real benefits to our countries and, most importantly, our nations,” she said.
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov noted that interstate relations between the two countries are characterized by a high level of political dialogue and a steady positive dynamic of cooperation across a wide range of areas.
According to him, the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, initiated by both presidents, is designed to play a coordinating role in establishing and developing interaction at the government level, as well as to provide the necessary impetus for developing cooperation at the entrepreneurial level. “Economic cooperation naturally takes center stage in Azerbaijani-Belarusian relations. Despite the complex processes occurring in the global economy, our countries manage to maintain positive momentum in mutual trade and even expand areas of business interaction. This is evidenced by the positive dynamic of trade in January-April 2026. At the same time, we believe there are ways to further expand trade and diversify the structure of mutual trade,” the deputy prime minister said.
During the visit, the parties discussed the possibilities of using the extensive dealer network of Belarusian enterprises to promote Azerbaijani products on the Belarusian market, as well as the activities of the Azerbaijan Trade House in Belarus.
Samir Sharifov added that investment cooperation between the enterprises of the two countries, along with the initiation and subsequent implementation of joint projects, is a very powerful factor that promotes mutual trade. “The Belarus-Azerbaijan Business Forum, held on the sidelines of the 16th meeting of the intergovernmental commission, serves as a highly valuable platform for the business communities of both countries to explore the investment and export opportunities of Azerbaijan and Belarus,” he said.
Minsk is hosting the 16th meeting of the Belarus-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. The focus is on industrial cooperation, interregional and humanitarian collaboration.
