Belarus attends International Labor Conference in Geneva

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – A tripartite delegation of Belarus headed by Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich attended the 107th session of the International Labor Conference (ILC), BelTA learned from the Labor and Social Security Ministry.

The ILC session running in Geneva from 28 May to 8 June has brought together more than 4,000 delegates from around the world, including Belarus. Irina Kostevich and members of the delegation participated in the plenary meeting on gender equality in labor, the work of the conference committee on the application of standards and a panel meeting on the eradication of hazardous child labor.

At the plenary meeting, Irina Kostevich made a report to lay out the measures of state policy to promote decent work principles and to create favorable conditions for the effective participation of women in the labor market.

The Belarusian delegation held meetings and consultations with  Special Adviser for the Director-General of the ILO Kari Tapiola, Chairman of the Employers' Group Mthunzi Mdvaba and Director of the International Labor Standards Department at the ILO Corinne Vargha to discuss the topical issues of current interaction and prospects for cooperation with the ILO through the international technical assistance.

The agenda of the 107th session of the International Labor Conference includes reports of the ILO director general and the president of the administrative council, proposals for the program and budget of the organization, information and reports on the application by the member states of the conventions and recommendations, discussion on the issues of effective collaboration in support of sustainable development goals, violence and harassment at work, the debate on the strategic objective of social dialogue and tripartism, removal of a number of obsolete conventions.

The International Labor Conference is the primary forum for representatives of the member states, the highest representative body of the International Labor Organization (ILO), making the most important decisions taking into account the views and interests of three parties:  governments, workers and employers.

Belarus has been a member of the ILO since 1954 and has taken regular part in the work of the ILC.
