MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – Belarus is one of Ukraine’s top five trading partners, President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gennadiy Chyzhykov said as he took part in the online meeting “Ukraine-Belarus: Economic cooperation amid global challenges”, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is one of Ukraine’s biggest trading partners in general and its second biggest in the CIS. According to Ukrainian statistics, Belarus-Ukraine trade in 2019 totaled $5.5 billion, with Ukrainian export to Belarus increasing almost by 19% and reaching $1.7 billion. Supplies of Belarusian goods to the Ukrainian market also went up and came at almost $3.7 billion,” Gennadiy Chyzhykov noted.

Developing trade and economic relations and interregional cooperation with Belarus is very important for Ukraine, Gennadiy Chyzhykov stressed. “Our chamber, for its part, is ready to help and support Ukrainian and Belarusian companies and representatives of small, medium-sized and large enterprises. Out countries pay close attention to establishing joint enterprises, and we hope that bilateral cooperation will remain a priority for Belarus and Ukraine,” he said.

Gennadiy Chyzhykov expressed hope that the countries will be able to hold the 3rd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine in October 2020 as well as organize the 10th coordinating council with the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI).

In turn, BelCCI Chairman Vladimir Ulakhovich noted that in the current difficult situation, the role of the chambers of commerce and industry is particularly important. “There are a lot of pressing problems facing business, and our current mission is to keep these problems in sight and bring them to the attention of bodies authorized to make relevant decisions and to do our best to support our enterprises,” he stressed.
