Belarus ambassador presents copy of credentials to Peruvian secretary general of foreign affairs

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) - Belarus Ambassador Vladimir Astapenko presented the copy of his credentials to Manuel Talavera Espinar, Secretary General of Foreign Affairs of Peru. The ceremony took place the other day in Lima, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

During the meeting the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, development of the legal framework of cooperation in politics, trade, economy and humanitarian affairs.

The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission also met with Director General of the European Department at the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Luis Enrique Chavez Basagoitia and Director of the Peruvian Diaspora and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Cesar Enrique Bustamante Llosa. The parties reviewed the topical issues on the bilateral agenda.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Argentina and concurrently to Uruguay Vladimir Astapenko was also appointed Ambassador to Chile, Paraguay and Peru with concurrent accreditation in 2018.

Trade and economic cooperation with Peru has been gaining momentum in recent years. In 2018 the commodity trade amounted to $20.8 million, up by 39.6% year-on-year. Belarus’ export exceeded $14 million, an increase of almost 44% over 2017. Belarus had a $7.4 million surplus in trade with Peru.

The growing Peruvian market is promising for Belarusian engineering products (road construction equipment, buses, trucks, dump trucks).
