Belarus Ambassador discusses embassy opening with Spain's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ Ambassador to France with concurrent accreditation to Spain Pavel Latushko met with Spain’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ignacio Ibanez in Madrid on 11 October. The parties discussed a wide range of issues of the bilateral economic and humanitarian agenda, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

Ignacio Ibanez hailed Belarus’ decision to open its embassy in Spain in the near future and showed interest in opening Spain’s Embassy in Belarus.

Pavel Latushko stressed that the opening of the Belarusian embassy in Spain is an important political step that aims to add an additional impetus to Belarus’ cooperation with one of Europe’s leading countries. The parties agreed that the main goal of the embassy’s activity is to promote bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The Belarusian diplomat and the Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs discussed the preparations for the cultural events in Madrid and Toledo that are scheduled to mark the opening of the Belarusian embassy.

Pavel Latushko apprised the Spanish official of the visit of representatives of Spanish companies to Belarus. They are expected to hold talks at Bellesbumprom Concern, the Belarusian national electrical company Belenergo, and also Belorusneft Company.

Ignacio Ibanez assured the Belarusian side that the closing of the Spanish visa center in Belarus would be temporary and would not affect the visa issuance for Belarusian citizens who wish to visit Spain.

The parties also discussed the issues of mutual support in the UN international organizations.

The parties reached an agreement to hold ministerial consultations in Minsk in early 2017.
