MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) – As the CSTO chair country, Belarus delivered a statement on behalf of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states on the resolution entitled “Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance” presented to the Third Committee of the 71st UN General Assembly, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The statement condemns the targeted efforts of certain countries to rewrite the history, twist and review the results of the Second World War. The CSTO member states recognize that peaceful settlement of conflicts in accordance with the goals and principles of the UN Charter and the norms of international law, and promotion of sustainable development provide the basis for maintaining peace and stability,” the press service said.
The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly deals with human rights issues. The resolution was approved by a vote of 131 in favor, to 3 against (Palau, Ukraine, United States), with 48 abstentions.
