Austria welcomes Belarus’ efforts to promote Ukrainian settlement

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) - Austria welcomes Belarus’ efforts to promote the Ukrainian settlement, Karlheinz Kopf, Second President of the National Council of Austria (the lower chamber of the Austrian parliament), said as he met with Chairman of the House of representatives Vladimir Andreichenko, BelTA has learned.

We welcome the efforts of the Belarusian leadership and, above all, the President of Belarus to achieve progress in the Ukrainian settlement, Karlheinz Kopf said. He added that this is also the opinion of the EU as a whole. "Belarus is a country that is stable not only in terms of domestic politics. It has the potential, makes efforts to stabilize the situation in the region. We can safely say that Belarus is a donor to the stability in the regional context,” he said.

When speaking to reporters, Karlheinz Kopf also pointed out that he advocates the intensification of cooperation between Belarus and Austria at the level of the parliaments. "The Austrian Parliament has the practice of creating groups on cooperation with parliaments of other countries, thanks to which MPs can actively communicate with foreign colleagues. At today's meeting we discussed the possibility of swifter establishment of such groups,” he said.

In addition, he pointed out the importance of strengthening the economic relations. "Today a forum of businessmen from Austria, Belarus and Russia is underway. I have heard a lot from Austrian companies that they like to work in Belarus because the country offers fairly stable conditions, and this creates a good basis for a more active economic interaction," he said.
