MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that tensions around the Belarusian nuclear power plant project are artificial, BelTA learned from Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesman was asked about the Lithuanian government’s plan to block the import of electricity the Belarusian nuclear power plant will generate. “Let me start by telling you that in the past Lithuania stated it would do everything to stop the construction. After the plan is passed, one can state that they are confident in the successful commissioning of the nuclear power plant,” noted Dmitry Mironchik.

The official said: “The adopted document once again reaffirms that our neighbor resorts to the practice of artificially fanning tensions around our nuclear power plant project. One can hardly describe the practice as good neighborly. Instead of a constructive dialogue and search for mutual profits our neighbors prefer devising more and more measures to demonstrate their inflexibility and readiness for confrontation. They go out of their way to make the civil engineering project look like a scandalous affair.”

Dmitry Mironchik said he would not be surprised if a number of major Western media would very soon find reasons to publish considerable reports concerning the Belarusian nuclear power plant. “Naturally with a charming, hardly noticeable Lithuanian flavor,” added the official.
