Andreichenko praises Belarus-Vietnam inter-parliamentary cooperation

MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko praised inter-parliamentary cooperation between Belarus and Vietnam. The Speaker made the statement as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Belarus Do Van Mai on 6 August, BelTA informs.

According to the Speaker, the two countries develop bilateral cooperation through the exchange of visits at the parliamentary level, commissions and working groups as well as collaboration in international organizations, in the Inter-Parliamentary Union in particular. “Our countries can boast a strong legal framework, we have over 60 agreements, a well-developed inter-parliamentary cooperation,” the Speaker said. In particular, a protocol on cooperation was signed between the working group of the National Assembly of Belarus on cooperation with the National Assembly of Vietnam and the working group “Vietnam-Belarus” to outline the future main areas of cooperation.

In 2014 the Belarusian side invited Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Sinh Hung to pay an official visit to Belarus. The parties are currently coordinating the time of the visit.

Vladimir Andreichenko also expressed confidence in further strengthening of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, especially taking into account the operation of the Eurasian Economic Union. According to the Speaker, a free trade agreement between the EEU and Vietnam was signed in 2015. “The agreement will come into force after its ratification by all the EEU member states. Once we have the document in the House of Representatives, we will ratify it,” he said.
