Andreichenko: Belarus-Venezuela relations rely on solid foundation

Andreichenko: Belarus-Venezuela relations rely on solid foundation

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - We have built a solid foundation of the bilateral relations with Venezuela, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with Venezuela president’s special envoy Adan Chavez Frias in Minsk on 7 October, BelTA has learned.

“Let me welcome you to the House of Representatives. We are happy to have the opportunity to get to know you better. In February next year, our countries will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. I must say that during this time, which is a short period by historical standards, we have built a solid foundation of our bilateral relations. Of course, this was achieved thanks, first of all, to the presidents of our countries, who built a good system of mutually beneficial cooperation, mutually beneficial relations, friendship, support in international organizations. We view your visit as the willingness to give a new impetus to our cooperation. Today the most important thing is to chart new avenues of cooperation," Vladimir Andreichenko said.

According to him, mutual support in international organizations plays an important role in the current international situation. "Because, you see, times are very difficult now. A hybrid war has been launched against the Republic of Belarus. For example, today the European Parliament will vote on another resolution against Belarus. The unfounded accusations of European politicians do not stand up to any criticism and simply go beyond common sense. We see double standards and distortion of the events that are taking place in the country today. Belarusian MPs firmly believe that attempts to put pressure on Belarus are futile. No issue has ever been solved by blackmail and pressure. We will continue our work to strengthen our country for the benefit of our people," the speaker said.

Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that the deputy corps should play an important role in intensifying Belarus-Venezuela cooperation. "The parliaments should set up working groups on cooperation, to complement the work in relevant commissions. We had such a good tradition sometime before 2015. These working groups could develop a roadmap for boosting our cooperation, set up events that deserve attention from the point of view of Belarusian and Venezuelan MPs. Video conferencing has become a well-tested way of communication during the pandemic. We can communicate more via video conferences. I will be glad to hear your proposals regarding further ways and areas for the development of our mutually beneficial cooperation," he added.

Adan Chavez Frias thanked the Belarusian side for the opportunity to meet at such a high level. "We are here to talk about fruitful future cooperation, to organize this work in areas of interest to us. We see that we can set up these friendship groups and give a new impetus to those that already existed. In principle, these are the main tasks. We'd like to settle them fairly quickly. The Belarusian parliament can cooperate with the Hugo Chavez Political Legacy Institute, and conclude an agreement to hold various forums, conferences, lectures. The main purpose of our visit is primarily to strengthen our relations, give a new impetus to the areas of interest to us and, possibly, find new ones,” he said.
