MOSCOW, 27 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoi met with Ambassador of Syria to the Russian Federation Bashar Jaafari in Moscow on 26 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

“The ambassadors exchanged opinions on bilateral cooperation, interaction between Belarus and Syria in international organizations, the situation in the Middle East and other urgent international issues. The parties praised the visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to Syria in November 2022 and discussed the steps for implementation of the agreements reached following the talks between the Belarusian and Syrian heads of government. An important role in this work belongs to the joint Belarusian-Syrian commission for trade, economic and technical cooperation, the ninth meeting of which is scheduled for this year in Damascus,” the embassy said.

Among significant areas for the development of trade and economic relations the Belarusian ambassador named great potential in agriculture, farming, truck and road machinery produced in Belarus, as well as the expansion of contacts between the business communities of the two countries, primarily through the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce.

“Dmitry Krutoi stressed that Belarus has always supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, the cessation of any external pressure and interference in its internal affairs. Bashar Jaafari mentioned the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which Belarus and Syria will celebrate in 2023, emphasizing that Syria considers Belarus a reliable partner in political, trade, economic and humanitarian sectors,” the press service said.

Touching upon the multilateral agenda, Dmitry Krutoi and Bashar Jaafari mutually confirmed the traditionally high level of Belarusian-Syrian interaction and support at the UN and other international organizations, and expressed their intention to continue following this course based on the UN Charter and the principles of international law.

“The parties emphasized the friendly nature of the relations between the two countries and called for continuation of the constructive Belarusian-Syrian dialogue at all levels,” the press service added.
