MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Türkiye need each other, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Türkiye Anatoly Glaz said in an interview with Anadolu Agency, BelTA reports.
The ambassador highlighted that, according to Turkish statistics, Belarus-Türkiye trade is approaching $2 billion. This is a quite impressive figure for both nations, he emphasized.
"We need each other. If certain other countries had not interfered, this figure would have been even higher. However, we have full understanding with the Turkish side, with our partners in Türkiye, and we will continue increasing our trade, thereby improving the well-being of our citizens and developing businesses in both countries," the diplomat assured.
In the near future, several business contacts are already planned. Bilateral trade and economic cooperation mechanisms will soon be activated. Ambassador Anatoly Glaz added that Minsk expects these initiatives to be implemented within this year.
"There will be visits from business circles. The agenda is very optimistic and active," he stated.
The ambassador emphasized that the high level of relations between Belarus and Türkiye is primarily based on the close and friendly ties between the leaders of both countries.
According to the ambassador, during their meeting, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Türkiye emphasized his special interest in the relationship with the Belarusian president and conveyed his greetings. "The friendship between our presidents must be worthily represented by diplomats. It is the key purpose of our work," Ambassador Anatoly Glaz stressed.
The diplomat added that Belarus adheres to the traditional approach to diplomacy, just as Türkiye does. "Our diplomacy is aimed at developing, deepening, and enhancing relations between countries for the benefit of the people. We do not come to teach anyone. We do not interfere in internal affairs or tell other nations how to live, what to do, or how to hold elections. Unfortunately, some countries, especially in the West, engage in this practice, using diplomacy as a means to teach others," he noted.
Ambassador Anatoly Glaz stressed that both Belarus and Türkiye follow the traditional diplomatic approach, believing that diplomacy should serve the greater good. "This is our main goal. Belarusian diplomacy is primarily focused on trade and economic cooperation," he concluded.
