Ambassador: Belarus-Poland trade, economic cooperation on fast track to recovery

MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – Belarus and Poland are restoring their trade and economic cooperation fast, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Poland Vladimir Chushev said during the online seminar “Belarus-Poland: Cooperation Amid Global Challenges”, BelTA has learned.

“New times and new economic conditions, related first of all to the coronavirus, dictate their rules, require new formats of cooperation and creative approaches. Despite certain difficulties in the economies of almost all European countries, we can state that trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Poland has gone through the phase of slowing down rather quickly. In terms of six-month forecast, we are still behind last year's performance, but since May we have seen a tendency towards improving the situation,” said the diplomat.

Vladimir Chushev said that, according to statistics, Poland is the main market among the European Union countries for Belarusian export-oriented enterprises. “Positive growth has been registered virtually across all major groups of exported goods. These are woodworking, metal, complex technical and agricultural products. Polish companies have been successfully implementing investment projects in various sectors of the Belarusian economy,” he said.

According to the ambassador, air service between the two countries has resumed as well. “It is great that amid the pandemic cargo transportation was not interrupted and even went up,” the head of the Belarusian embassy said.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Belarus Artur Michalski noted for his part that despite difficult economic conditions in the light of the pandemic the neighboring countries worked hard from the very beginning to find a way out of the situation. “Yes, a pandemic happened but we did not give up because we need each other. Business cooperation needs to continue even during such a difficult situation. We will do our best to help each other, create necessary conditions, remove obstacles and restrictions so that business could keep running as it is a solid foundation of the relations between the two states,” the Polish diplomat said.
