MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) -  The mutually beneficial cooperation between Belarus and China is comprehensive in nature, stressed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China Yuri Senko, who spoke at the ceremony to sign the Belarusian-Chinese agreement on the exchange of delegations and cooperation in journalism on 26 April, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat stressed that this year Belarus and China are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The countries are not just ‘all-weather friends’, but strategic partners, and their mutually beneficial cooperation is comprehensive in nature and involves a variety of areas.

According to the ambassador, it is of special importance today, when the world is rebuilding and testing relations between states amid the ongoing global fight against the coronavirus pandemic and the aggravation of contradictions between individual countries. “Belarus and China are no exception, but the continuing high level of mutual trust in the Belarusian-Chinese bilateral relations shows the world that it is respect for the sovereign interests of the partner countries and constructive dialogue that guarantees successful long-term and stable cooperation, peace and sustainable development,” the diplomat said.

In his opinion, an important component of the strategic partnership between Belarus and China is practical cooperation in the media sector.

“The media in the modern world with the latest communication technologies act as one of the main tools in the formation of relations between different peoples, contribute to the improvement of mutual trust, the exchange of cultural achievements, ideas and news. Information is becoming a more valuable resource, and its accessibility is the most important element of the ideology of the information society,” Yuri Senko said.

“We see the information pressure on Belarus and China today from the Western countries and those forces and destructive elements that are trying to destabilize the situation in and around our countries in pursuit of their interests,” he continued. “In the face of challenges and threats to information security and various fakes, we must unite our efforts to fight effectively together. Deepening and expanding cooperation between Belarusian and Chinese journalists is more relevant today than ever before. I am sincerely glad that we are consistently building relations with our strategic partner China, including in the media sector.”

The Belarusian ambassador said: “The signing of the agreement on the exchange and cooperation in journalism between the Belarusian Union of journalists and the All-China Journalists Association is another step of the two countries to become closer, intensify the development of the information sector of Belarus and China, strengthen mutual understanding between our peoples. The Belarusian embassy welcomes intensification of contacts between mass media representatives of the two countries, is ready to continue necessary assistance and invites Belarusian and Chinese journalists to further mutually beneficial cooperation.”
