All Belarusian towns to be spruced up within five years

ORSHA DISTRICT, 7 July (BelTA) – All Belarusian towns will get a spruce-up during the five-year term following the example of the town of Kopys, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with residents of Kopys and nearby population centers on 7 July, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said that the decision to renovate and spruce up Kopys was adopted in autumn last year. Much has been done to advance the social and economic development of the town. Social facilities and infrastructure have been refurbished. Attention was also paid to the manufacturing sector.

Alexander Lukashenko explained that Kopys was chosen for this pilot project not because it is the birthplace of the head of state. The main motive behind the decision was that the president knows the place very well and can himself evaluate the relevance of measures suggested for the development of the town. “We wanted to set an example for others,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian leader noted that a decision was taken on 7 July that two similar towns will be spruced up in each region of Belarus every year. The wok is scheduled for completion during a five-year term.

Today we need to decide on how to further develop the country, how to improve the distribution of the population. For people to live in towns like Kopys, it is necessary to create good conditions. To ensure future prosperity of this region, we need to make sure that people live here, build homes. They will live here only if they have good, stable jobs, Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.

The president spoke about the plans for the development of the local manufacturing industry. To a large extent it will be facilitated by the fact that the town is located between two major agricultural companies, namely OAO Alexandriskoye and OOO Kupalovskoye. This will make it possible to build processing facilities in Kopys and set up retail outlets.

Kopys illustrates how a small town should look like, and Kupalovskoye is an example of a 21st-century agricultural company. This is the path we will follow in rebuilding and developing Belarus,” the Belarusian leader said.

The president told the locals that the future of the town depends on them, and asked them to protect their land.
