MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) - Algeria and Belarus are considering the possibility of opening embassies and launching direct air service, Speaker of the National People’s Assembly of the Algerian Parliament Ibrahim Boughali told the media following a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 26 May, BelTA has learned.
"I asked the president to consider a proposal to think over a possibility of opening diplomatic missions in both countries on a mutual basis,” he said. A proposal was also made to consider the possibility of opening direct air service between Belarus and Algeria, which, according to the speaker, would allow for “strengthening intercultural ties and interaction between business communities.”
He described the meeting with the Belarusian head of state as very warm and positive. According to him, a number of areas of cooperation were discussed, with an emphasis on economy. “We already have strong and excellent relations that received an impetus during the visit of the Belarusian president to Algeria in December 2025. We are observing good dynamics in these relations,” the Speaker said.

The parties are planning to hold a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission in Minsk in the coming months, which will zero in on concrete cooperation in the economy, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and other promising fields.
“We are keen to pursue joint projects to produce tractors, buses, and fertilizers, all of which are needed by Algeria’s economy and agricultural sector. I firmly believe these projects will serve the interests of the people of both nations,” Ibrahim Boughali said.
“Our countries have the potential to boost trade and explore new areas of cooperation across a range of fields. I am confident about that,” he added.
