Additions to double taxation agreement to bolster business ties between Belarus and Kazakhstan

MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) – The amendments to the Belarus-Kazakhstan intergovernmental agreement for the avoidance of double taxation will help intensify business ties, Belarus Taxes and duties Minister Sergei Nalivaiko told reporters when commenting on the relevant protocol, BelTA has learned.

“We hope that this will have an influence on the widest possible range of enterprises, given that the majority of them are export-oriented. The amendments and additions to the agreement aim at bolstering relations,” said the Minister.

He drew attention to the fact that in Belarus there are about 200 enterprises with the Kazakhstan participation. Sergei Nalivaiko also expressed the hope that both sides will expand the number of enterprises.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus, the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the statutory and other bodies of the CIS Yergali Bulegenov expressed confidence that the signing of the protocol will help strengthen relations. He said that that the new instrument extends and provides good conditions for students and interns. Now more than 270 Kazakhstani students are studying in Belarus. In accordance with the protocol, the payments for school are not taxed,” the Ambassador said.

The Ambassador noted that the Belarusian and Kazakhstan tax agencies have extensive professional experience. “We need communication, not only through electronic channels but also face-to-face so that we could settle all issues at the negotiating table,” he noted.

The matter is about the protocol between the governments of Belarus and Kazakhstan on amendments and additions to the intergovernmental agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and property (as of 11 April 1997). The protocol was signed by Belarusian Taxes and Duties Minister Sergei Nalivaiko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus, the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the statutory and other bodies of the CIS Yergali Bulegenov. The document is aimed at resolving certain issues on taxation of incomes and property which arose in the course of the practice of application of the agreement. The protocol will enter into force on the date of receipt of the last notification on the completion of the domestic procedures by the parties.
