MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – Historical memory of Belarusians is a target of attacks and all kinds of falsifications, Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko told reporters prior to the meeting of the National Council for Historical Policy on 2 March, BelTA has learned.

“It is no secret that today historical memory is subjected to attacks and all sorts of falsifications. These are attempts to rewrite the history of the Great Patriotic War, attempts to interpret certain periods of our history as being part of another state,” Igor Sergeyenko noted.

On 4 February Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a decree on the establishment of the Council for Historical Policy under the Belarus President Administration. According to the press service of the Belarusian leader, the document was signed in the Year of Historical Memory as part of the consistent policy of preserving the truth about the heroic past of the Belarusian people, building a certain position about the history and the state, strengthening the historical, cultural, spiritual community of Belarusians.

The council will be led by Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko, but it will be based at the National Academy of Sciences. The council includes well-known humanities scientists, public figures, representatives of political parties, public associations, the expert community, government agencies and organizations.
