MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – Gender equality and international cooperation are vital to global peace, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan said at the China-Belarus seminar on youth and women’s exchanges, BelTA has learned.
“The international community is united in its commitment to promoting gender equality, a fact underscored by the recent success of the Global Summit of Women in Beijing. With representatives from over 110 countries, including Belarus, the event highlighted both the global focus on women’s issues and China’s dedicated efforts to advance this crucial cause,” the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission said.
He emphasized that at the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping placed significant emphasis on cooperation with international organizations to implement joint projects on women’s empowerment and to improve the quality of life of the population.
“China views gender equality as a cornerstone of national policy and advocates for a bigger role of women in centralized national development planning,” the ambassador noted. He informed that the average life expectancy for women in China has reached 80.9 years, women make up over 40% of the overall workforce and a third of employees in new industries such as digital trade and e-commerce. More than half of university students are women. Hundreds of millions of Chinese women are fulfilling their potential in various fields and contributing to the country’s progress.
“Belarus also places great importance on the role of women in the country’s life. President Aleksandr Lukashenko keeps saying that women embody Belarus – beautiful, strong, and striving for a happy future,” Zhang Wenchuan added.
“Our shared vision is to jointly create a bright future. China stands ready to work with all stakeholders, including Belarus, to deepen mutual understanding, pool common efforts, and bring to life a new chapter in building the community with a shared future for mankind, in which your country also actively participates,” the ambassador concluded.
