Yaroshenko: China remains a key strategic and trading partner of Belarus

MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) - China remains a key strategic and trading partner of Belarus, Belarus’ Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Yaroshenko said when speaking at a conference on the Chinese economy, Belarusian-Chinese cooperation and joint development of the Silk Road economic zone on 24 March, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Yaroshenko noted the relevance of these topics especially with regard to the establishment of the new Silk Road. He stressed that it is very important to maintain a constructive exchange of views on a wide range of issues. “In view of the fact that China is a key strategic and trading partner of Belarus, we are interested in developing cooperation between our states, ensuring Belarus’ active participation in the One Belt, One Road project initiated by China President Xi Jinping,” Alexander Yaroshenko said.

“In confirmation I would like to mention two iconic documents that were signed during the visit of the state delegation of the People's Republic of China to Belarus. These are the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Belarus and China and the joint declaration on developing and deepening the relations of all-round strategic partnership. The Economy Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Commerce of China signed a memorandum to strengthen cooperation in joint development of the Silk Road economic belt,” Alexander Yaroshenko noted.

Belarus is the first country to have signed a memorandum with the China Silk Road Fund to develop joint projects which can be financed through direct investments of the fund.
