Women's union lauded as pillar of government in Belarus

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) - The Belarusian Women's Union is a pillar of statehood in our country, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said at a meeting of the Board of the Belarusian Women's Union in Minsk on 12 July, BelTA has learned.

"When an organization elects a new leader, it is always a time to take stock of the work done," Natalya Kochanova noted. “The country's president pays much attention to this organization and this is worth a lot for all members of the BWU. Here we have the most active members, and you made the difficult yet right decision.” The current BWU leader is also in charge of the healthcare system, which is almost half the country, and people's lives depend on how efficiently this system works. This is a very big responsibility in this difficult period. Combining this work with the post of the chairperson in in the 150,000-strong organization is challenging. I would like to thank Yelena Bogdan for the work done under her leadership in the organization."

"The processes developing in 2020-2022 left an imprint on our country. This is the geopolitical division of the world, and the president was always right as he predicted this scenario. The head of state spoke about the importance of public organizations, we understood perfectly well that they are really a pillar of government. When we work out the draft law on public organizations, we view the BSW in this light. It is really a pillar of government in the country. A woman should be a preacher of peace, kindness, sincerity, honesty and decency, as is the case in our country," she said. “These years have not been not easy. The organization did everything to expand its ranks, to attract more young people. It's nice to see young faces here, it's very important."

"We have a lot of work to do. We have started a good tradition, namely to hold women's forums. This must continue. A lot has been done. But much more is yet to be achieved," Natalya Kochanova added.

The board meeting elected Olga Shpilevskaya as chairperson of the Belarusian Women's Union.

For 30 years, the Belarusian Women's Union has been the largest women's organization in the country. It unites 150,000 women. The BWU is focused on promoting women’s engagement in the social, political, cultural and business life of the country, supporting motherhood and childhood, promoting traditional family values.
