Wiktorin: New head of EU Delegation to Belarus will continue constructive dialogue

Wiktorin: New head of EU Delegation to Belarus will continue constructive dialogue

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – I believe that the trajectory towards the constructive dialogue between Minsk and Brussels will remain in place once my time in office in Belarus expires, Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus Andrea Wiktorin told the media, BelTA has learned.

“I am sure that the trajectory towards cooperation, which we set in the last four years, towards openness and constructive dialogue will remain in place after I leave office here,” Andrea Wiktorin said while commenting on the new nomination to the post of the head of the EU Delegation to Belarus.

When asked about the Belarus-EU visa facilitation and readmission agreements, Andrea Wiktorin noted that these documents will be signed during the time when the new head leads the EU Delegation to Belarus.

“I believe that it will happen during the time my successor leads this office. I will be here for just four more weeks. My successor will be most likely in charge of these agreements. By that time I will be already in Armenia if my nomination is approved. But I will follow closely the developments in Belarus,” she added.

As it has been reported, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini announced a number of senior nominations on 9 July. Dirk Schuebel, who is currently serving as Head of the EEAS Russia Division, has been nominated to head the EU Delegation to Belarus. The new nominations will be formally approved once the agréments are granted.
