U.S. analyst: Belarus plays a key role in reducing tensions in the region

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – Belarus plays a key role in reducing tensions in the region, BelTA learned from Lieutenant General (Retired) Ben Hodges, an expert of the Center for European Policy Analysis (USA), on 6 November.

Ben Hodges said: “During the visit and during the meeting with the Belarusian head of state I was very impressed by the level of openness, transparency, and readiness of the Belarusian leadership to make contact.”

The expert stressed he was impressed by the potential and the ability of Belarus, which borders on three NATO member states as well as Russia and Ukraine, to play a key role in ensuring stability in the region. “Belarus does play a very important role in reducing tensions in the region between East and West,” the analyst said.

Ben Hodges went on saying that the USA is interested in stability in the European region partially because the wellbeing and prosperity of the United States depend on it. “Both political and economic stability,” he noted.

The American analyst said he had been able to visit a World War Two museum in Belarus and had been impressed by what he had seen – by the historical memory that people treasure and preserve.
