MOSCOW, 2 July (BelTA) – The 70th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from the Nazi invaders reminds us that the Slavic people need to be together, first woman cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union, member of the State Duma of Russia Valentina Tereshkova told reporters, BelTA has learned.
"This is an amazing date, the great celebration which brought freedom to Belarus and showed that only united our people are strong and can resist any enemy," said Valentina Tereshkova.
She noted that she considers Belarus her second home because her parents were originally from Belarus: her mother was born in Dubrovno District, Vitebsk Oblast and her father in Mogilev District. "During the war my mother sang me lullabies in the Belarusian language. We still sing Belarusian songs in my family," said Valentina Tereshkova.
"For Russians, Belarusians are very special people. We are connected with Belarusians by close ties and kind feelings,” said the world's first female cosmonaut.
